Snake Oil

Remember that September, when everybody was afraid;
Bin Laden and his martyrs turned the world a darker shade.
Focused on revenge, thinking only eye for eye;
Couldn't catch the leader; someone had to die.
Playing on our fears, they brought our fever to a boil.
Cheney and his gang sold a sea of snake oil.
Then we wasted blood and billions
On a misguided war in Iraq.
We sent our sons and daughters;
Not all of them are coming back.

  I just want to sing; I just want to dance;
  I just want to give peace a chance.
  Everywhere I turn, tempers 'bout to boil;
  Never seem to learn about snake oil.

So our life's been chaos and comfort;
Both happiness and fear.
We must hold onto each other;
Take life year by year.
As we face another challenge;
We got sold a bill of goods.
We must rise and fight with honor;
In the streets and in the 'hoods.
