She was the prettiest girl in my high school;
I wasn't even sixteen.
Neither a jock nor a scholar;
Guess I was just in between.
She was a popular senior;
I was just a freshman in the band.
You can imagine my thrill,
When she strolled up and took my hand.
You could say I got lucky;
She filled my heart with hope.
Does the story have a happy ending?
I regret to tell you no.
She would have taught me how to kiss;
How to hold my head up high.
But I made some lame excuse;
Instead of giving it a try.
So the moral of this story,
The lesson to be learned.
When good fortune comes a'calling;
Take the risk of getting burned.
Getting Burned
2025: This song is a true story, more or less. I'll bet Dorothy doesn't even remember, but I do!
Upper left corner is my first band in high school (can't remember the name)
